What changes the price
Size
Bigger skip, bigger price. But a second skip costs more than going up a size, so don't go too small.
What's going in
Soil and rubble weigh a lot. Mattresses and awkward items cost extra to get rid of.
Drive or road
On your drive there's no permit. On the road you pay the council fee, which we apply for.
How long
7 days is included. Keep it longer and there's a small charge, plus a new permit if it's on the road.
Where the skip goes changes the price
Where you put your skip will affect the final price you pay.
- On private land (driveways and gardens): if the skip is kept entirely on your own property, there's no permit fee. This is the cheapest way to hire a skip.
- On public roads: if you don't have a drive and need the skip on the road or a grass verge, you'll need a skip permit from your local council.

Small note: make sure your skip is picked up before your permit runs out, or you risk a fine. Liverpool fines £200 on top of the permit fee for a skip on the road without one.

Ways to keep the cost down
- 1Get the size right. Too small and you need a second skip. Too big and you're paying for space you don't use. Ring us if you're stuck.
- 2Put it on the drive. No permit to pay for. Even a tight drive will usually take a mini or a midi.
- 3Break everything down. A wardrobe takes up half the skip in one piece and a corner of it in bits.
- 4Keep the awkward stuff out. Mattresses and the like cost extra. Your council might collect them cheaper.
- 5Book it for when you're ready. Don't have it sat there half the week before you start. Book the day you're actually going to fill it.
Understanding tonnage vs volume
Skips are ordered by size (cubic yards), but each one has its own weight limit (tonnage) so it's safe to carry.
- Heavy waste: for soil, bricks, concrete and hardcore, we recommend nothing bigger than an 8 yard skip, and a 4 yard midi is often the sweet spot. Bigger loads can get too heavy for the wagon to lift if they're full of dense materials.
- Light waste: for light, bulky waste like cardboard, wood and old furniture, where you need volume rather than weight, the 8 yard builders' skip is the one.
Prohibited items
To keep your costs down, make sure your skip doesn't have hazardous materials in it that need specialist disposal. Common items that can cost extra or aren't allowed include:
- Asbestos
- Batteries and chemicals
- Fridges and freezers
- Tyres
- Plasterboard (must be kept separate)
- Mattresses (extra charge)
Do I need a permit?
You don't need a skip permit if the skip is going on your driveway or other private land. You do need one if it's going on public land, like the road, pavement or a grass verge. We pass the council fee on at cost, which is £44 in Liverpool.
How long can I keep the skip?
Skips are hired for up to 7 days. If you need to extend the hire, let us know when you book. There's a small charge per extra day or week, and if it's on the road the permit will need renewing too.
What if I overfill it?
Skips shouldn't be overfilled, as loads have to be kept at a safe level. Nothing can stick up above the sides, and if it's overloaded the driver will have to take some off before he lifts it. Follow our size guide to get the right skip for the job.
Do your prices include VAT?
Yes. Every price on the site includes VAT, delivery, collection, 7 days hire and tipping up to the weight limit.
Why does it say "from"?
Because the final price depends on your postcode and what's going in the skip. We tell you the full price before anything's booked, and that's what you pay.
What if I go over the weight limit?
There's a charge for the extra weight. If you think it'll be heavy, tell us when you book and we'll put you in the right skip so it doesn't happen.
