Things people always ask
Sizes, permits, what goes in and what it costs. Can't find your answer? Ring 0151 154 5698.
Booking and delivery
How quick can I get a skip?
Next day nearly always, as long as you book during office hours. Same day happens a lot too, it just depends what we've got free and where you are. Ring us rather than filling the form in if it's urgent.
How can I book skip hire in Liverpool?
Booking skip hire with us is easy. Just choose your skip, or tell us the type of waste you're getting rid of and a rough idea of how much, and we'll recommend the right size.
Fill in the form on any page or ring 0151 154 5698. We'll arrange a permit if you need one and offer same-day or next-day delivery. Nothing to pay until it's all confirmed.
Can I hire a skip anywhere in Liverpool and Merseyside?
Yes. We offer skip hire across the whole of Liverpool, from Aigburth, Allerton and Anfield to the City Centre, Kirkdale and Mossley Hill, and out across Merseyside.
If you're unsure about your postcode, just ask and we'll confirm delivery options and any local permit rules that might apply.
Do I need to be in when it's delivered?
Not really, as long as we know exactly where it's going and the space is clear. Move the car off the drive the night before and it's easy.
How long can I keep it?
7 days is standard and that's what the price covers. If you need longer, tell us, ideally when you book. There's a small charge for extra time.
Can you swap my full skip for an empty one?
Yes, that's an exchange. We take the full one and drop an empty one in the same trip.
Do you deliver at weekends?
The office is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If you need a weekend drop or collection, ring us in the week and we'll see what we can do.
Sizes and what fits
What skip sizes do you have available?
We've got skip sizes for every need, including mini skips, midi skips and builders' skips, so there's an answer for every type of job.
- 2 yard mini skip: ideal for small house clear-outs, decluttering and garden tidy-ups.
- 4 yard midi skip: for slightly bigger jobs like bathroom and kitchen refits, bigger clear-outs and light building waste.
- 8 yard builders' skip: for bigger renovations and large clearances, and bulky, heavy builders' waste. Sometimes called a maxi skip.
As a rough guide, that's 20 to 30 bags for a mini, 40 to 50 for a midi and 60 to 80 for a builders' skip. It depends how full you stuff the bags.
What size skip do I need to clear a unit?
It depends entirely on the size of the unit.
For small units with around 20 to 30 bags of waste, a 2 yard mini skip will be perfect. For bigger units with 40 to 50 bags of waste, you'll want our 4 yard midi skip.
For larger units, or if you're doing building work, we'd recommend our 8 yard builders' skip.
Is a 4 yard skip the same as a 4 tonne skip?
Yes, people use both names. Yards is the size, tonnes is the most it's allowed to weigh.
Will a skip fit on my drive?
A mini fits on nearly any drive and a midi goes on most. The 8 yard needs a full size drive. The wagon needs about 3 metres width to get in, and nothing low overhead.
Can I fill it right to the top?
Up to the top edge, yes. Nothing above it though. If it's overloaded the driver can't legally take it, so he'll have to take some off first.
Permits
Do I need a permit for skip hire in Liverpool?
That depends. If your skip is going on private property or your driveway, you won't need a permit from the council.
If it needs to go on public land, like the road, pavement or a grass verge, then you will need a permit.
Permits are issued by Liverpool City Council and have to be applied for by a registered skip company, not by residents. So if you need one, we take care of it for you, with no extra work or worry for you.
How much is a permit in Liverpool?
£44 per skip, and it lasts up to 7 days. Other councils charge different amounts and we'll tell you the cost when you book.
What happens if a skip goes out without one?
Liverpool fines £200 on top of the permit fee. Not worth it.
What can go in
What can't go in a skip?
Asbestos, fridges and freezers, TVs and monitors, tyres, batteries, paint and chemicals, gas bottles and medical waste. Mattresses can go in for an extra charge.
Can I put plasterboard in?
Yes, but keep it separate from everything else, bagged up. It can't be mixed in with general waste.
Can I put soil and rubble in?
Yes. It's heavy though, so you can hit the weight limit before the skip looks full. Ring us if it's mostly soil or hardcore.
Where does the rubbish go?
To a licensed waste transfer station where it's sorted, and as much as possible gets recycled.
Prices and paying
What is the cost to hire a skip in Liverpool?
We like to keep our prices affordable, so homeowners and business owners don't have to fork out a lot to get rid of old items and materials.
We price our skips on size, waste type, how long you need it and where you are, so we'll give you a clear quote once you get in touch. If a road permit is needed, the fee is set by the council and added to the cost.
What's included in the price?
Delivery, collection, 7 days hire, tipping up to the weight limit, and VAT.
What could cost extra?
A road permit, keeping it longer than 7 days, going over the weight limit, and awkward items like mattresses.
How do I pay?
Card over the phone once your delivery day is confirmed.
