Our skip hire options in and around Liverpool
A "yard" is a cubic yard, so a 4 yard skip holds about 4 cubic yards of rubbish. That's roughly 3 cubic metres, or about 40 to 50 full bin bags. All three are drawn to scale below so you can see the difference.

Sizes are measured across the top. Skips taper in towards the bottom so the base is a bit smaller. Bag counts assume normal household bin bags, not tightly packed.

Houses, trades and sites
Domestic skip hire
Clear-outs, garden jobs, moving house, DIY. Most homeowners go for a mini or a midi and it sits on the drive for the week.
Skips for your homeCommercial skip hire
Shop refits, office clearances, unit clear-outs and landlords turning a property round. We can do regular swaps if you've got ongoing waste.
Skips for businessBuilders and sites
8 yard builders' skips for extensions, refurbs and site waste. Exchanges booked in when you need them so the site stays clear.
Skips for tradeDo I need a skip permit?
Only if the skip's going on the road. On your drive, your front garden or any private land, no permit needed.
For anything on the road, the council has to approve it before we can drop it off. In Liverpool you can't apply for it yourself anyway, it has to be done by a skip company that's registered with the council. So leave it with us. Tell us when you book, we'll apply and add the cost to your quote.
Give us a few days' notice if you can for road skips. Some councils are quicker than others at getting them through.

On the road, not the pavement
In Liverpool the whole skip has to sit on the road. Nothing over the kerb.
Lit up at night
Road skips get cones and lights so nobody drives into them. We put these on when we drop it.
City centre rules
In the city centre, skips have to be gone the same day unless it's a lockable enclosed skip.
No permit, big fine
Liverpool fines £200 on top of the permit fee if a skip's put out without one. Keeping it past 7 days needs a new permit.
Getting ready for your skip
Five minutes sorting this out the night before saves the driver turning round and coming back, which nobody wants.
- 1Clear the space. Move the car off the drive and shift any bins or pots out of the way.
- 2Check the access. Our wagon needs about 3 metres width to get in and clear height for the arms, so watch out for low branches, phone lines and carports.
- 3Firm ground only. We can't put a skip on soft grass or a lawn, the wagon will sink and so will the skip.
- 4Protect your drive. Got block paving or new tarmac? Lay a few scaffold boards or planks down and we'll set it on those.
- 5Leave room to open the door. Skips have a drop door at one end, handy for wheeling barrows in. Leave space so it can open.
Loading it properly
- Heavy stuff in first, like rubble and bricks. Light stuff on top.
- Break things down. A wardrobe takes up half the skip in one piece and a corner of it in bits.
- Fill gaps as you go so you're not paying to move fresh air.
- Keep it level with the top. Nothing sticking up or hanging over the sides or we can't lift it.
- Never light a fire in a skip. Ever.
- On the road overnight? Throw a tarp over it, saves the neighbours filling it for you.
Heavy waste? Read this
Soil, hardcore, concrete and bricks weigh a lot more than they look. A skip full of soil can go over the weight limit before it's even half full. For heavy jobs, a 4 yard midi is usually the sweet spot. Ring us and we'll talk it through.
What you can and can't put in a skip
Fine to go in
- Household rubbish
- Old furniture
- Garden waste and turf
- Wood and timber
- Bricks, rubble and soil
- Tiles and ceramics
- Metal and old pipes
- Cardboard and plastic
- Kitchen and bathroom units
- Carpets and underlay
Not allowed, or extra charge
- Asbestos
- Fridges and freezers
- TVs and monitors
- Tyres
- Batteries
- Paint, solvents and chemicals
- Gas bottles
- Medical waste
- Mattresses (extra charge)
- Plasterboard (keep it separate)
Got something that's not on either list? Just ask. Better to check than have it sent back.
Which skip size do most people go for?
For houses, the 4 yard midi gets booked more than anything else. It's big enough for a kitchen or bathroom refit but still fits on most drives. Builders mostly have the 8 yard.
Can I swap my full skip for an empty one?
Yes, that's called an exchange. We take the full one and drop an empty one in the same trip. Handy on bigger jobs and usually cheaper than a fresh hire.
Can you wait while I fill it?
Yes, it's called wait and load. Good for city centre jobs or places you can't leave a skip. The driver waits a set time while you load it, then takes it straight away. Ask for a price.
Can I put the skip on my front lawn?
We'd rather not. The wagon and the skip will both sink into soft ground and leave a right mess. Hard standing is best.
What if I need it longer than 7 days?
No problem, just tell us. There's a small charge per extra day or week. If it's on the road, the permit will need renewing too and we'll sort that.
Do you do skips at weekends?
The office is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If you need a weekend drop or collection, ring us in the week and we'll see what we can do.
